GATEWAYS classes are conducted in English and students who register need to be proficient in the English language. We are primarily concerned with the well-being of the students in our classes. It is unnecessarily stressful to the student who does not speak English to be placed in a GATEWAYS class. GATEWAYS classes are not designed to teach English. When teachers spend time trying to communicate with non-English speaking students it detracts from the class, slowing it down, and changing the purpose of the class to one of language. This situation is not fair to the teacher or the other students in the class. Students who are not able to communicate with the teacher and/or do not understand the instructions in a class will be sent to the office. This students parents will be called and asked to pick up the student. The student will be dropped from the class and there will be NO refunds.
To assure a successful and rewarding experience at GATEWAYS students need to be fluent in English, mature, self-reliant, and working above grade level.
