Paid Counselor Position: Korean Churches for Health Study

A counselor needed for a project on smoking, secondhand smoking, and diet among Korean Americans. 

Location: Center for Behavioral Epidemiology & Community Health, San Diego State University. Located at Sky Park Court, Kearny Mesa.

Job Description: This is a paid, part-time, temporary position. Hours may vary (approximately 10 -15 hours per week) from June – October.

Main duties:

·        Speak with church members (participants) one-on-one (either by phone or in person)

·        Help participants set monthly goals

·        Encourage participants to discuss their concerns / struggles with successfully meeting their goals

·        Listen and provide feedback

·        Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

·        Fluency in English and Korean

·        Counseling background a plus but not required

·        Experience with motivational interviewing is a plus

·        Reliable transportation and driver’s licence

·        Reliable telephone service

·        Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·        Well-organized and self-reliant

·        Detailed and clear note-taking skills

·        Dependable and able to meet deadlines

·        Strong listener who is unbiased and inviting

Salary: $11-14/hour, depending on counseling experience
