Embers from that home fire then were spread by wind to the open area near Bernardo Center Drive. So far, natural fire breaks are preventing the fire from spreading to any of the nearby homes, and shortly after 11 a.m., Copter II arrived on the scene and began making water drops on the fire.

The vegetation fire is burning near the intersection of Camino Del Norte and Bernardo Center Drive. That fire started at about 10:25 a.m., according to San Diego Fire Rescue spokesman Maurice Luque. He tol NBC 7/39 that the fire was started when some embers from a trash fire ignited a Rancho Penasquito home's shake-shingle roof.
