              Sea of Galilee
              (Fisherman's boat)

[Setting]

After Jesus rose from the dead,
His resurrection was first revealed to Mary Magdalene, James's mother Mary, and Salome.
Mary Magdalene told the eleven disciples, whom had been with Jesus, about this,
but they didn't listen nor believe Jesus had appeared to them and had risen from the dead.

[Scene 1]

Mary, her face filled with tears of joy, enters the house
where the disciples were and tells the news to the depressed disciples.

Mary : Jesus is alive!
      He is really alive!
I've seen Him with my own eyes.
I touched the nail marks on my Lord's feet with these hands.
      (grabs Peter by the hand)
If you go to Galilee, you'll see Him.
      Come on!
      He's waiting!

Peter : (wipes tears away from his eyes)
Mary, you must have had the angel confused with the Lord.
He passed away on the cross in front of our very eyes.
(buries face in hands, weeping again)

James : Wasn't He laid in a tomb of Joseph's three days ago?
How can you say that He rose from the dead?

John : Mary, this is hard for us all and we are very tired.
If only the Lord was with us now...

Thomas : How can a man survive a nail through the hand
and a spear to the side...
If He is alive who wouldn't go out and find Him?

Mary : But He is alive! I even fell down before Him, held His feet and worshiped Him!
I'm telling you, you must all hurry to Galilee just as He told you!

Cleopas : (letting out a long sigh)
I'm leaving to get some rest at my house in Emmaus.
I'm afraid I don't have the strength nor heart to travel for days to Galilee.

Matthias : I'm coming with you.
Staying here only brings tears to my eyes...
      I cannot bear it,
the memories with my Lord Jesus here are too much for me...

[Scene 2]

Cleopas and Matthias walk down a road connecting Jerusalem to Emmaus that was 10 km long.
Weary with grief for Jesus, they discuss the events that had happened in Jerusalem about Him.

Cleopas : (with a sad and tired face)
I truly believed Jesus was the Savior of Israel.
The miracles He made; raising the dead, healing the sick,
casting out demons, I was so sure...
      (wipes tears from his eyes)
      What wrong did He do,
that the priests and the authorities crucified Him on the cross?
The heavens are cruel to us..

Matthias : (turns head towards Jerusalem with a mournful look)
Jerusalem only brings sad memories of my crucified Lord,
I don't think I'll be able to go back ever again.
Emmaus is just too close to Jerusalem.
Moving far away to Galilee where the Lord used to live
      would be better off.

Jesus : (in His risen form He appears to Cleopas and Matthia)
What is it you are talking about that troubles you as you walk along?

Cleopas and Matthias stop their weary feet and stare at Jesus but don't recognize Him.

Cleopas : You seem to have come from Jerusalem,
and yet You don't know the recent events that had happened there?

Jesus : What events?

Matthias : The events about Jesus of Nazareth.
He was a prophet, powerful in word and deed
in front of God and all the people.
But the priests and authorities sentenced Him to death
and crucified Him on the cross.
      (covers face and weeps)

Cleopas : We believed He would be the One to save Israel.
Yet, it has been 3 days since He passed away on top of Golgotha
      in Jerusalem.
(points towards Jerusalem while wiping away a tear)

Matthias : But then some of our women amazed us with surprising news.
They went to the tomb where Jesus lay but couldn't find His body,
instead they met angels that told them Jesus is alive.

Cleopas : Especially Mary. She says she met the Lord
        and worshipped Him.
The stories were too good to be true.
      Can You believe them?

Jesus : (looks at Cleopas and Matthias with compassion)
Oh you of little faith and slow of heart,
do you not remember and believe the words of the prophets?
Isn't it written in the Scriptures, that the Christ
must go through all these things to enter His glory?

Matthias : (amazed by His words, looks closely at Jesus)
You must have deep insight in the words of the prophets and Moses.
      Can you tell us more?

Jesus : Just as Moses made a bronze snake and hung it on a pole
so that anyone who was bitten can look at it and live,
Christ was crucified on the cross to save His people.

Cleopas : (is amazed by the new teaching)
So the event of Moses' bronze snake is telling us
      about Christ's crucifixion!

Jesus : Didn't the prophet Isaiah write about the Christ having to suffer
so that He can save His people?
      As it is written:
"But He was pierced for our transgressions,
      He was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him,
and by His wounds we are healed."

Matthias : (feels his heart burn as he listens)
Ah, I never knew Isaiah was referring to the Christ.

Jesus explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures with detail concerning Himself.
Then, when they were almost at Emmaus, He seemed to be going further.

Cleopas : Teacher, come stay with us and have some rest before You go.

Matthias : Yes, please do.
It is nearly evening and the day is almost over.

Jesus : (laughing with content)
      Alright, I'll stay with you.

As they enter the house, Cleopas' wife Mary, who was by Jesus' cross
the day He was crucified, brought some water for washing feet with some towels.
And yet even Cleopas' wife Mary didn't recognize Jesus.

Mary : (giving a water and towel)
      Welcome, please come in.
I'll be right with you, Teacher.
Supper will be ready in a moment.

Once supper was prepared Jesus held the bread and blessed it.

Jesus : Father God, I thank you for this daily bread.
Like I have broken my flesh, I break this bread for them.
Open their eyes and ears, Oh Father.

As soon as Jesus breaks the bread and gives it to the disciples their eyes are opened
and they realize the man who was with them was Jesus all along.
But Jesus already disappeared from their sight and left them.

Cleopas : (looks on in wonder)
      My Lord, Jesus,
You are truly the risen Christ and the Son of God.

Matthias : (looks around)
I was beginning to wonder why our hearts burned within us,
when He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures..
The Lord is truly alive.. Thank you God.

Cleopas : (lets out a hearty laugh and opens both arms wide)
Come, let us go back to Jerusalem
and tell the good news to our brothers and sisters.

Matthias : We shall leave at once.
Our Lord, our Jesus is alive!
Hallelujah, hallelujah! Oh Lord, we thank you!

Mary : (wipes away tears and raises both hands to the heavens)
      Oh, Jesus, You are alive,
my Lord Jesus is truly alive.
But does my Lord's mother know that You are alive..

The disciples and their families, whom were once sad and gloomy, burst with laughter and sang Hallelujah. The echoes of His praise reached far beyond Emmaus.

[Scene 3]

Cleopas and Matthias, who were in Emmaus, hurried to Jerusalem to tell that Jesus is alive,
and they enter the house where the brothers and sisters in faith (except Thomas) were in.

Peter : (gives a hearty welcome)
      Welcome, my brothers,
the Lord has appeared to me, too!
      My Lord Jesus is alive!

Cleopas : (hugs Peter)
We also met Jesus on our way to Emmaus,
and we came here as soon as we could to tell the good news!
At first I didn't recognize Him...

Matthias : But when we sat around the table, Jesus held up some bread
and blessed it. As He broke it, our eyes opened
and that's when we knew it was Him!

Cleopas : We felt our hearts move with passion
as He opened the Scriptures from Moses to the prophets.
      Jesus is alive again. Hallelujah!

Mary : (grins with joy)
Now everyone believes me. I was first to say my Lord Jesus is alive!
      But where is He now?

At the moment, the disciples who followed Jesus had locked the doors and were cautious
not to go outside in fear of being captured and taken away by the government officials.

Jesus : (appears among them)
      How have you been doing?

Disciples : (jumps with fright thinking they were seeing a ghost)
      Aurgh! Who-who is that?

Jesus : (looking around at His disciples)
Why are you troubled, why do you doubt?
Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself!
A ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.

When He had said this, He showed them the nail marks in His hands and feet,
and revealed His side where there was a clear spear mark.

Disciples : (happy yet still shocked and bewildered)
Lord, is - is that You?
Are You really our Lord Jesus?

Peter : (reaches out his hand)
Lord, if it is You, please grab my hand...

Jesus : (grabs Peter's outstreached hand)
Do you have anything to eat?

Peter : (kisses Jesus' hand and rubs against it, crying)
Oh... Lord... it really is You...

Disciples : (looks at each other and smiles with happiness)
Yes, Lord. Please, take a seat!
We have just prepared fresh fish.
Eat as much as You want, Lord!

The disciples and the people there were filled with happiness and tears.
Jesus stayed with them for a while, eating dinner.

Jesus : (looks at the disciples with compassion)
This is what I told you while I was still with you:
Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me
in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.

Disciples : (all look at Jesus and nod their heads)

Jesus : And now as you have seen and heard the Scriptures being fulfilled:
The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name
to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Disciples : (all kneel down before Jesus and worship Him)
Lord, You are Christ and the living Son of God.

Jesus : (lifts the disciples by the hand)
      Peace be with you.
(after He says this He lets out a deep breath towards the disciples)
      Receive the Holy Spirit!
If you forgive anyone his sins,
      they are forgiven;
if you do not forgive them,
      they are not forgiven.

At this the disciples said amen in unison and bowed down in worship,
but when they lifted their heads Jesus had disappeared,
still their hearts were deeply moved and filled with joy.
Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came.

Peter : (warmly welcomes Thomas who went out for a while)
      Brother Thomas!
      Everyone here today
saw and met the risen Lord! He's alive!

James : He came and had broiled fish and honeycomb,
and even showed us the marks on His hands and on His side.

John : Then He told us to receive the Holy Spirit
and breathed unto us as He spoke.
Isn't this wonderful? Our Lord is truly alive!

Thomas : (with a reluctant expression)
Unless I see the nail marks
and put my finger through His hand,
and put my hand into His side, I will not believe it.

Peter : (holds Thomas' hand)
      Brother Thomas,
He held this hand of mine, the Lord!
Just like the time when I was about to sink under water...

[Scene 4]

After eight days since Jesus last appeared to His disciples,
everyone including Thomas were in the house.
They were still hiding from the authorities and had locked the doors.

Jesus : (appears inside the house and stands among them)
      How have you been doing?
(takes a step closer to Thomas and with compassion)
Put your finger here; see My hands.
Reach out your hand and put it into My side.
      (tenderly holds Thomas' hand)
      Stop doubting and believe.

Thomas: (falls down on his knees on spot and worships Him)
Lord, You are my Lord and my God!

Jesus : (picks Thomas up by the hand and hugs him)
Thomas, because you have seen Me, you believed.
      (looks around at His disciples)
I tell you, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.

Disciples : (looks at each other)
Yes, Lord. It is as you say.
      Lord, but, why do you..?

The Lord, after finishing His sermon, is nowhere to be seen.

Disciples : Wait, where did He go?

Peter : (looks all around the house)
      Lord, Lord! Where are you?
Oh Lord, where did You go?

James : Oh Lord, why can't You stay with us..

The disciples cover their faces as tears run down uncontrollably.

John : (falls onto his knees and looks up into the skies)
Lord, as much as we want to serve You from now on..
      Why did You leave?

Jesus, who disappeared before His disciples were able to finish speaking,
did not appear to them for some time.
Then the disciples remembered what Mary Magdalene told them about Jesus waiting in Galilee,
so they had in mind to set off to go there.

Peter : (sat, absent-minded, looking at the sky, then jumps to his feet)
We don't know where the Lord is now..
And we can't just sit here doing nothing..
I'm going out to fish in Galilee.

Disciples : (stands up)
      We're coming with you.

[Scene 5]

The disciples went out on their boats and let down their nets all day and night,
but couldn't catch any fish and were about to returned, exhausted.

Peter : (weakly raises the nets)
It's almost dawn, let's get back to shore..

Then, Jesus shouts to His disciples from the shore.

Jesus : Friends, have you caught any fish?
      My friends, any luck?

Disciples : (looks at each other as they wonder who it is, then replies in a loud voice)
We couldn't catch a single one!
We've been fishing all night in vain!

Jesus : (waves His arms wide and in a loud voice)
Throw your nets on the right side of the boat!
      Then you'll find some!

Peter : (tilts his head to one side in confusion, then lets his net
on the right side of the boat)
      He's got to be joking.
Telling someone to let down their nets at this hour is strange
      for one thing,
and we must be out of our minds to listen to Him...
But there's something about Him that tells me we should...

James : (as he raises the net, he tightens his grip as it gets heavier)
      What-what is this?
Why is the net so heavy?
John, how is it on your side?

John : (raises the nets with all his strength)
This net is just too heavy..! How come.. but why..?
(looks towards the shore and jumps in surprise)
      Look! It's the Lord!
Our Lord Jesus has come to us!

Peter : (immediately lets go of his net in amazement)
      Is... is it the Lord?
      Our Lord? Is that You?

Peter ties his outer garment that he took off around his waste and jumps into the sea,
swimming vigorously for about 100 meters towards Jesus.

Peter : I'm coming, Lord! I, Peter, am coming to You!
Almost there, Lord, I'm almost there!
      Wait for me, Lord!

Jesus walks towards Peter from the shore and happily greets the huffing and puffing Peter.

Jesus : (gives a hearty laugh)
Peter, who in the world can stop you?
      Have you been doing well?

Peter : (hugs Jesus and buries his face in His chest)
Oh Lord, where have You been?
Lord, I have looked all over for You
and waited for days, but why didn't You come?
      (hugs Jesus firmly)
      Have You stayed with someone?
How have You taken care of meals?
      (cries as he hugs Jesus)

Jesus : (strokes Peter by the head)
Have you been fishing all night?
(tears well up in His eyes)

Peter : (gently holds Jesus' hands and feels the mark on His side)
Do the scars hurt, my Lord?
Is it because we were insensitive
that You felt disappointed and left, oh Lord..?
(is filled with emotions and cries uncontrollably)

Jesus : (hugs Peter tightly and guides him by the hand)
Oh Peter, why would I feel upset?
If I don't know who you are, then who else can?
Come, tell the other to join and have breakfast.

Peter holds Jesus with one hand and waves to the disciples with the other.

Peter : Everyone, hurry and come here!
      Our Lord is waiting!

Peter, his face full of tears of repentance and of reunion,
holds on to Jesus as if he was leading Him and marches towards the waterside.

Just beyond the shore there apeared some fish cooking on a stone on top of burning wood;
Jesus had also prepared enough bread to feed all the disciples.

Peter : (in astonishment)
Lord, how did You prepare all this fish and bread?
      Lord, but really,
it should be us preparing for You..

Once the boat reaches shore the disciples run to Jesus and Jesus hugs each and every one of them. The disciples, whom are deeply moved, shed tears.

Jesus : (hugs all the disciples)
      How have you been doing?
You've done well catching those fish all night.

Disciples : (wipes away tears)
Lord, where have You gone for so long?
We were so worried we might not see You again.

Jesus : (looking at their boat by the shore)
Bring some of the fish you have just caught.

Peter runs back to the boat and brings a couple of big fish in a basket.

Peter : Here it is, Lord.
The big and delicious-looking fish You let us catch.
I'll say, of all the years as a fisherman, I've never seen such huge fish.

James : (pointing at the boat)
      Lord, we were absolutely amazed.

John : The net became so heavy with fish
it became impossible to lift it all.

Thomas : We caught 153 of these large fish, Lord!

Jesus : (takes the fish and places it on the charcoal, chuckling)
Has it been a long time since you caught this many fish?
Now, gather around the warm fire and sit.
You've been out all night fishing,
so eat this meal and be filled.

Jesus breaks the bread and shares the fish with the disciples.
Everyone is having a good time around the fire, eating their breakfast.

After breakfast, Jesus is looking at Peter with compassion, who was also looking back at
Jesus with awe and admiration.

Jesus : (gently holds Peter's hand and points out to the other disciples)
      Simon son of John,
do you truly love Me more than them?

Peter : (looks at the disciples and then back at Jesus)
      Yes, Lord,
only You know that I love You.

Jesus : (nods, then looks at Peter, then the others)
      Feed my lambs.

Jesus gets up and looks towards the south, where Samaria is.

Jesus : Simon son of John,
      do you truly love Me?

Peter : (stands up and gets closer to Jesus)
      Yes, Lord,
only You know that I love You.

Jesus : (places His hand on Peter's shoulder and points towards the south)
      Take care of my sheep.

Jesus, with His hand on Peter's shoulder, walks around slowly, pointing to all four directions.

Jesus : Simon son of John,
      do you love Me?
(tears well up in Jesus' eyes)

Jesus first pointed out to His disciples,
second to Jerusalem and all of Judea and Samaria,
and last to every direction,
asking Peter every time if he loves Him and to take care of His sheep.
With this a thousand emotions went through Peter.

Peter resented himself and was sad for denying to know Jesus three times in front of the fire,
and felt sorry and unworthy of the task that Jesus had entrusted him,
but at Jesus' words when He asked if he loves Him,
while He pointed out His disciples and all of Israel and the world,
Peter understood it as a farewell, that Jesus was leaving and Peter must do well in His place,
and with that Peter could not stop his tears from falling.

Peter : (goes into His arms and weeping)
Lord, Lord, only You know all these things.
Only You know that I love You.

Jesus : (pats Peter on the back)
If I don't know you, than who else can?

Peter : Yes, Lord,
only You, only You can, Lord.

Jesus : (holds Peter by the hand and points to all directions)
      Feed my sheep.

Peter : (falls into His arms and bursts out crying)
      Oh Lord, my God..

Jesus : (hugs Peter tightly and strokes his head)
      I tell you the truth,
when you were younger you dressed yourself
      and went where you wanted.
(with welled up eyes looks to the skies)
But when you are old you will stretch out your hands,
and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go.
      (while looking at the sky)
      You will carry your cross
and through it you shall reveal the glory of God.
      (again hugs Peter tightly)
So I tell you, Peter, endure the path you are about to take.

Jesus hugs each and every disciple, one by one.
And before He was taken up to heaven, He gave the disciples an important mission.

Jesus : (raises both arms high up to the heavens and in a loud voice)
      My God, your God.
      My Father, your Father
has given all authority in heaven and on earth to Me,
therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
      baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
(extends both arms towards His disciples)
And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Disciples : (raising both arms)
      Amen, Amen, Amen..

(Lights out)
