The county's newest Nordstrom Rack store opens today with a special game for customers who get there early, a drawing for a shopping spree, and free gifts for the first 1,000 customers.

The 39,000-square-foot store is at 11940 Carmel Mountain Rd., Suite 100, in San Diego. It's in part of the former Mervyns.

This is the retailer’s 112th Rack location and its fourth Rack location in San Diego County. The other locations are in San Marcos, Mission Valley and National City. Prices are 30 percent to 70 percent less than regular retail, according to the chain.

Festivities will begin at 7 a.m. for the 9 a.m. opening with a hunt for 20 golden hangers hidden throughout the store. Customers who find the golden hangers (one per person) can redeem them for $100 to spend inside the new store. Shoppers can follow the store on Twitter @CarmelMtn_Rack between 7-9 a.m. on opening morning to find clues.

Another reason to get there early: There will also be a morning drawing to win a $2,000, 90-second shopping spree. Also, the first 1,000 customers who make a purchase at the new Nordstrom Rack at Carmel Mountain Plaza will receive a complimentary Nordstrom Rack tote.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price division of Nordstrom, Inc. offering on-trend clearance merchandise from Nordstrom stores as well as items purchased specially for Nordstrom Rack. The first Nordstrom Rack opened as a clearance center in the lower-level of the Downtown Seattle Nordstrom store in the early 1970s.
